Exhibition Outline

Approximately 9,000 excavations are conducted each year throughout Japan, but opportunities to actually handle the results of these are extremely limited. This exhibition aims to deepen public understanding of the importance of passing on and protecting Japanese history and culture through buried cultural properties. In 2021, the special exhibition “100 Years of Memorials” was added to the “New Archaeological Discoveries Report,” which reports on the results of excavations nationwide, and the new exhibition “Local Ruins: The Pride of Our Town,” which exhibits the findings of regional studies. Across these three sections, the exhibition presents about 630 items including documentation and explanatory panels.

*The permanent exhibition admission fee is free in the following cases. Preschool children. Anyone who has a physical disability certificate, intellectual disability certificate, rehabilitation certificate, mental health and welfare certificate, or an official designation as an atomic bomb survivor, as well as their attending caregivers (up to two people).

 

*Junior high school, high school, university, and technical school students are required to present a student ID card, and those aged 65 and over are required to present proof of age (health insurance card, driver’s license, etc.).
